Many moons ago, Mel came up with the idea of revisiting topics that had been recently taught on a regular basis (it turns out that it wasn’t a new idea!) and from this the original JustMaths “Bread & Butter” worksheets were born … that little idea, turned out to have been a key strategy in building exam-ready mathematicians and so we present the JustMaths “B&B version 2.0”. On a daily basis a worksheet, solutions and video solutions will be published below for 39 weeks. (There is also a book on its way with totally different numbers for additional practice too!)
The principle behind them is that rather than trying to force new information in, regular practice requires students to actively pull knowledge out of their minds and breaks the forgetting cycle and strengthens long-term recollection. Used regularly they can also help expose gaps and act as instant diagnostic tools, highlighting exactly what needs to be retaught. An addition benefit we’ve seen is a reduction in exam stress by turning maths skills into automatic habits which helps students perform confidently under high-pressure exam conditions.
The order of topics has been carefully curated (Mel does like a spreadsheet!) following the JustMaths Crossover Scheme of Work and so covers the entire of the GCSE Foundation tier which means they are also suitable for your Higher tier students in years 9 or 10 to ensure that they have the skills required for them to be successful on the Crossover content (formally known as the “Common Assessment Items” on a GCSE paper).
