Just wow!

Changing job is THE hardest think I have ever done in my career. It must be the best kept secret in teaching, because no-one ever tells you what to expect until you’re “in the moment”. I have no idea why this is the case, maybe it’s because people think that if they admit how hard it is that there is somehow something wrong with them. Well let me tell you … there is nothing wrong with you, it’s just tough. But this much I know … it will get easier!

The range of emotions has been immense and I have been extremely lucky (not sure he would say the same though) that I have had a partner in crime with me, and the good news is that after 8 weeks we are still speaking! (*Just!* says Seager!)

The last week or so, has been manic (I’m sure you’re all in the same boat) trying to tie up loose ends. A couple of things that we wanted to get done were a separate numeracy page and getting the VLE sorted with useful resources.

  • The idea behind the numeracy page is that it’ll provide parents with resources to use at home. These include my “nitty gritty” worksheets (link -> here ) and will also include links to useful sites. It’s still very much a work in progress but a great start.

NUMERACY

  • We want to make the maths pages of the VLE useful. In the past, I have found, if there is too much information or too many resources available students spend loads of time faffing and not doing any work so we wanted to keep it simple but effective. The GCSE revision resources are the JustMaths Top 40 exam questions by topic and for the KS3 ones we have re-used the “nitty gritty” worksheets and we’ve also included links to external sites. I can’t take credit for the layout of the VLE (Young Will did it!) but I love it! Again still a work-in-progress and it will develop over time.  The important thing is that students are getting directed there and using it to access the other sites (including JMOnline) in readiness for their next assessment and especially our year 11 for their mocks.

VLE

As things like this are getting done and we are putting our personalities into stuff it’s starting to feel more and more like home. OK so maybe not home … but more the norm and I’m happy with that!
