It’s the last night of the Summer holiday and I am holding on to the last few hours with every muscle I have!. Believe it or not, I am actually looking forward to going back to work; not in the way you did when you were a kid:  new clothes and shoes laid out, bag prepared (complete with new pencil case etc) and a bath before an early night … oh no, not in that way. I’m excited about what the year will hold, meeting my new classes, and rising to new challenges – on a more mundane level I’m also looking forward to getting back into a routine.

BUT …  * big pause * … there is a part of me that’s a teeny bit concerned that I’ve forgotten how to plan and teach. It was the same last year, and the year before, and within two minutes of getting into school the fear totally disappeared. It was amazing how quickly the school routine kicked in and I just hope tomorrow is the same!

On a more pressing note I am quite concerned about having to wear proper shoes … I have worn nothing but flip flops for 6 weeks and I’m not sure how my (what have become) hobbit feet will cope!

So to my fellow maths teachers, new or old, I have one word to say to you all in advance of tomorrow … ouch!! (Bet you thought I was going to come up with some sickly motivational thing … not my style!)
