SYMSIf you’re looking for a way to offer some extra-curricular enrichment for those students already interested in Maths – or even show other students exactly what is possible in the field of Mathematics – have you thought about promoting the Society of Young Mathematicians (SYMS) ? How about putting a bit in your next school newsletter? or somewhere on your Maths Department website page or even your school’s Facebook page?  You can even just copy and paste the following text if it makes it easier for you!

All young people interested in mathematics should join The Society of Young Mathematicians NOW!

Members will receive the following every term (3 times a year), delivered direct to their homes:

  • Mathematical Pie – an eight-page A5 magazine aimed at pupils from 10 to 14 years of age (but is read by people of all ages) which contains interesting maths problems, puzzles and activities. The questions vary in their difficulty so that there are suitable starting points for all ages.
  • SYMmetryplus –  The SYMS sixteen-page A4 newsletter, aimed at all ages but particularly those aged 10 to 18 contains short articles, news, things to do, calculator hints, book reviews, games, puzzles and competitions.

There is a small charge of £9.99 per year. Please complete the SYMS – Application Form and return to the Mathematical Association or you can complete via the website if you are interested.

PS: Adults are also very welcome to join SYMS.

PPS: For the most cynical amongst you – at the very least this will tick some “enrichment” box somewhere.
