So it’s “New (half) Terms Eve” … again … it feels like “Groundhog day”, in that every Sunday evening before we go back to school I feel the same – a slight panic that maybe I could have done more work (not possible I’m afraid!).

It doesn’t help that in my quest to empty my “inbox” I’ve been on a bit of a fool’s errand this morning. I came across something that someone sent me, after a Getting Ready to Teach event, many moons ago, for the new GCSE which I’ve been meaning to share. I love the idea of having a “thing” to refer to, some sort of acronym to help students to think about how to approach maths questions and Dave Gibson was kind enough to allow me to share what he uses (he’s probably forgotten as it was that long ago!):

RIDES2This wasn’t what got me going down a cul-de-sac – I got to thinking about the use of acronyms in education and so I foolishly tweeted out asking for suggestions and BOY! THERE ARE FLIPPING 1000’s OF THEM!! Thank you everyone that replied  (Stuart Lock wins for knowing the most by the way) but you can stop now! It would appear that education loves a good acronym – you can find pages and pages of them on this site, or this site or on this document so this isn’t the post I intended to write. I will however share my favourites, just so my time wasn’t entirely wasted.

CRAFT – Can’t Remember A Flipping Thing

and these two that I’ve made into posters (inspired by Andy Lyons!) – not sure I’ve the balls to put them up though and if nothing else it made me chuckle!
