Both 28 and 6 are ‘perfect’ numbers so the 28th June is a ‘perfect’ day to celebrate the teaching of mathematics!
Steve Lomax (from the GLOW Maths hub /Kangaroo Maths) sent me the following, the “S-word” reference did make me chuckle and I think it is a great idea.
During the last visit to Shanghai (yes I’ve mentioned the S word in the first two sentences!!!), I had the great privilege in witnessing National Teachers Day – a chance for the parents and children to thank their teachers and also for colleagues to thank each other for their support during the year. It was a fantastic experience and motivated me to propose to the other Maths Hubs in the UK that we should have a National Maths Teachers Day !! A day to celebrate the teaching of mathematics, a day for schools to do fun and enjoyable maths activities, a day to create a buzz and foster a #YesUCan ‘attitude’ about mathematics, a day to thank the leaders and teachers of mathematics for everything they do on a daily basis. Long term, hopefully a day that will contribute to changing the nation’s perception of maths teachers and mathematics and help with recruitment and retention! Not too ambitious then!
I like people with big ideas and this is a “mahoosive” one!
To help you get behind this the GLOWMaths has put together a pack of enrichment resources for schools to use on the 28th June.
What are you waiting for? Still reading this? well don’t … click on the above link and see what you can do to get behind this idea!
