As part of the groundworks for the collaborative scheme of work I have been looking at the new programmes of study for KS3 and KS4, and looking at the overlap in subject content. Many schools will be looking a 3 year GCSE (and yes that means starting to teach it from this September!) and most schools will be moving to a 5 year plan that incorporates both key stages, and building on the prior knowledge. We only have years 9-13 so its very likely that we’ll have a “straight through” scheme of work with some consolidation work done when they join us at the start of year 9.

I’ve used my own numbering/labelling convention using obvious abbreviations for the “topic area” i.e. No for Number, R&P for “Ratio, Proportion & Rates of Change2 and then KS3 topics are labelled as KS3 with letters against each point, and at KS4 I’ve used numbers against each point. I have used the actual wording from the DFE programmes of study and so the key to the underlined and bold bits are the same:

Key

Anyway as part of this I’ve combined both of the NEW programmes of study and matched up the common points within each topic area. It makes interesting reading to see what is actually new at key stage 4 , so for example here’s the start of “Number” shown in the image below:

Number

The areas of the new programmes of study are shown below and next to them I’ve put a link to the combined subject content documents:
