The attached policy document was published today that sets out the governments plans for post 16 Maths. I know most of you have “got” the fact that from Sept 2014 students who haven’t achieved a C at GCSE must continue to study Maths as part of their 16-19 education (in fact this is tied into the … Read more
As part of the groundworks for the collaborative scheme of work I have been looking at the new programmes of study for KS3 and KS4, and looking at the overlap in subject content. Many schools will be looking a 3 year GCSE (and yes that means starting to teach it from this September!) and most schools … Read more
12 months ago we moved my little blog to our own domain (or something similarly techie!) and I continued to post – according to the WordPress annual report it was actually 170ish times that I posted – and slowly more and more of you were reading me chuntering on about all sorts of stuff. It wasn’t until … Read more
I was going to come up with a list of things I’d like to achieve this year but I find myself sat here thinking that no matter how grand (or not so grand) one’s plans are, life seems to have its own way of unravelling and it sort of reminds me of that interview question … Read more

I’m not sure how much use some of this will be, but thought I’d share it anyway … There is so much change in the pipeline, and so many things yet to be confirmed by the DFE in terms of equivalencies between the new GCSE’s from 2015 and the current qualification that sometimes its difficult … Read more
A couple of recent twitter posts got me updating some old analysis I have done, into the frequency topics appeared and the number of marks awarded for them in each sitting of the Edexcel 1MAo Higher papers. This specification started in June 2012 and there have been 5 sittings in total (Jun ’12, Nov ’12, … Read more
There is no such thing .. We had year 11 parents evening Thursday and for this, I’d prepared a letter for each student, showing how many marks away from the next grade boundary they were 12 months ago and how many they were in their most recent assessment, and what they could be doing to prepare … Read more
