I have timed the posting of this, when I know most of you will be at work, so that it gets hidden amongst the ones below and the ones to follow later today – I don’t want people to think I’m putting it on to sensationalise what has happened , or am looking for sympathy – I just genuinely want to leave something that will mark this moment for my dad.
Dear Mel
As someone who lost my dad 14 years ago in July (12 days before my son, his first grandson, was born) I share your feelings. I have always felt as you did, that I wasn’t ready to let him go – becoming a father so soon afterwards compounding it. It took a long time to recover to the point of being able to look back. Thank you for reminding me of how it felt to have him around and also how proud he would have been to see what his family have achieved due to his guidance and words. I’m happy to say he would have approved, as I’m sure your dad would have. Parents are hugely important in our lives and they live on through our deeds and words.
Take care
Paul
Thanks for your lovely words … That must have been tough emotionally .. losing your dad then becoming one yourself.
Thanks again. Means a lot x
Hi Mel, just read your post about your dad- not an easy thing to share. I am sure he must have been reassured to have had you with him in his final hours, and to hear your words. I had a somewhat similar experience with someone very close, and found it helped me in dealing with their death.
Hi
In hindsight I’m glad I was there. It helps x
How very precious – I wish I had been there when my dad passed on, we were on our way to visit him – I didn’t know anything could hurt so much, as losing my dad. Bless your heart for sharing this.
